adopt的用法說明
【釋義】

vt.
收養; 采用，采取，采納; 正式接受，接受; 批準
第三人稱單數： adopts 現在分詞： adopting 過去式： adopted 過去分詞： adopted 形近詞： reopt
1. 收養，領養：
He’s not our natural son; we adopted him when he was three. 他不是我們的親兒子——他3歲時我們領養的。
2. 采取，采用：
They adopted our methods. 他們采用了我們的辦法。
3. 選定，選舉：
She has been adopted as Labour candidate for York. 她被提名為約克郡的工黨候選人。
4. 正式通過：
The agenda was adopted after some discussion. 經過討論，議事日程獲得通過。
【例句】
1、Parliament adopted a resolution calling for the complete withdrawal of troops.
議會采納了要求全部撤軍的決議。
2、I tried to adopt a curled-up position to avoid damaging my limbs.
我努力保持蜷曲的姿勢以免四肢受傷。
3、Podulski had joined the U.S. Navy as an aviator, adopting a new country and a new profession.
波度爾斯基加入美國海軍當上了飛行員，不僅改了國籍還換了行當。
【用法說明】
1. adopt表示“收養”時，指法律意義上的正式收養，若指一般的認養，則用foster。
2. 漢語中的“養子(女)”說成英語是adopted son (daughter)，但是“養父母”卻是adoptive parents (father, mother)。但若用foster(養育的，收養的)則沒有此區別，如可說a foster child(養子)，a foster father(養父)。
