日記是把自己在當天生活中經歷的有意義的事以及見聞感受記錄下來的書面形式。文體自由，不拘一格。通常用第一人稱記寫。
英語日記的格式與漢語相同。在正文上方自左起頂格寫上日期、星期幾和天氣情況。正文另起一行，內容應有所選擇，記有意義、感受最深的事，切忌流水賬。有話則長，無話則短，甚至三言兩語亦可。通常采用一般過去時或可靈活運用。日記的寫作格式如下：
