古時候有個傳說，相傳有一只老虎把人咬死以后，吃掉人身上的.肉，卻不讓他的靈魂離開。這個靈魂下次還要幫著老虎去吃人，讓老虎再把那個人咬死、吃掉，這樣這個人的鬼魂才能獲得自由。這個傳說后來就變成了為虎作倀這個成語，用來比喻替惡人做幫兇，引誘或幫助惡人干壞事。
